Dr. Sukumar Kamalasadan Named IEEE Fellow

Dr. Sukumar Kamalasadan, Professor of ECE and Distinguished Scholar of the W.S. States Lee College of Engineering, has been elevated to IEEE Fellow, effective January 1, 2026. Dr. Kamalasadan is a recognized scholar  who has made valuable contributions in power grid modernization, smart grid, microgrid, power system operation and optimization, power system dynamics, stability and control, and renewable-energy-based distributed generation. He is the director of the Power Energy Intelligent Systems Lab (PEISL) within the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) at UNC Charlotte. He is the author of three textbooks and has published over 300 technical articles in journals, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, and book chapters. He is a recipient of several awards, including the National Science Foundation Faculty Early CAREER Award in 2008, best paper awards from IEEE in 2015, 2018, and 2021, outstanding teaching awards in 2004,  and Duke Energy Professorship from the Lee College of Engineering in 2019. Dr. Kamalasadan has received over $13M of external research awards from reputed sponsors that include the US Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, Siemens Research, Duke Energy Corporation, Schweitzer Engineering Lab, and several other industries. He has supervised over 65 graduate students in research, including 36 Ph.D. students.
