ECE Faculty Honored at College of Engineering Awards
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNC Charlotte is proud to celebrate several faculty members who were recognized at the College of Engineering (CoEN) Awards for their outstanding contributions to teaching, research, scholarship, and innovation.
These honors reflect the department’s continued leadership in advancing engineering education, impactful research, and translational innovation.
Award Recipients
- Graduate Teaching Excellence Award: Dipankar Maity
Recognized for exceptional commitment to graduate education and mentorship, Dr. Maity has demonstrated excellence in delivering high-impact learning experiences and preparing students for careers in advanced engineering, control systems, and AI-driven technologies. - Excellence in Research Award – Early Career: Minhaj Alam
Dr. Alam was honored for his innovative research in artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering, particularly in advancing ophthalmic imaging and distributed machine learning approaches with strong translational potential. His research is supported by multiple awards from National Institute of Health (NIH). - CoEN Distinguished Scholar Award: Sukumar Kamalasadan
This award recognizes Dr. Kamalasadan’s sustained scholarly excellence and leadership in power systems and energy research, with broad impact across academia and industry. - CoEN Scholar: Hamed Tabkhi
Dr. Tabkhi was recognized for his contributions to novel technologies to enable real-time decentralized edge cognitive Intelligence integrated into community environments to allow a broad range of Smart and Connected Communities applications.
